Freedom Week Tulsa
The Brief
The city of Tulsa, OK, wanted to celebrate Military Veterans in a special way, starting in 2023. Instead of a normal Memorial Day, the mayor of Tulsa wanted to spearhead a campaign to hold events celebrating Veterans the whole week long – calling it Freedom Week Tulsa.
The logo needed to be patriotic, and also symbolize the heart of the city. It would also need to be versatile, so it could be displayed on printed banners, social media videos, flyers, and all other forms of printed and digital media.
The Solution
I employed a red, white and blue color scheme, to cover the patriotic bases, and went with Futura Bold for the font. Futura has been utilized in signage for decades, which adds a sense of stability and national unity to the design.
The unofficial (though most people consider it to be official) flag of the city of Tulsa, contains a golden shield with an art deco star in the middle. Utilizing this imagery, I turned the “O” in “FREEDOM” into the shield from the Tulsa flag, keeping the tassels on the bottom, but changing the star from the art deco, 6 pointed star, to the traditional 5 pointed star from the American flag.
